“Marcia Jane’s practice is situated within a historical line of critical enquiry into retinal activity traceable back to Goethe’s Theory of Colours (1810). Her Energy Field series re- tools for digital use the formal minimalism, denials and erasures of an invisible performed cinematic avant-garde. Here the relationship between the signifier and the signified are inverted, transposing architectural space as content, projecting Brakhage’s closed-eye vision outside the body and uncoupling analog lens flare and camera focus from its photographic moorings to mime as sonic equivalence.” Dirk de Bruyn
Marcia Jane (b. 1969 in Adelaide) — an Australian artist that works with light and sound. She is interested in frequency, pattern and space. She is currently undertaking her Master of Fine Arts by Research in Interdisciplinary Arts Practice at Victorian College of the Arts, and holds a First Class Honours in Fine Art from RMIT, 2008. She has exhibited installations at spaces and festivals in Australia and internationally including Les Instants Chavirés (France), Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (Japan), Institute of Modern Art (Australia) and Australian Centre for the Moving Image. In 2008 her work Time Ball was nominated for Best Experimental Short at Melbourne International Film Festival. In 2013 she received the Australian Postgraduate Award.
She lives and works in Melbourne.
