Penelope (single—channel video, 2012) An episodic found footage. A video who’s only character, Penelope, is weaved of fifteen iconic females in cinema. Through the removal of everything but the woman in the frame, Penelope is constantly in the spotlight on a dark stage. Penelope is the ultimate cinematic woman re—staged into a monologue, a reflection on the construction of the woman as staged fantasy generated in cinema.
Ann Oren (b. 1979 in Tel—Aviv) — a visual artist. Works with video and installation. She explores issues connected with film history, its perception and the way it influences the viewer.
She received a BFA in Film&Video and an MFA in Fine Arts, both from the School of Visual Arts. Her work has been shown in Anthology Film Archive (NY), The Hammer Museum (LA), Tel—Aviv Museum of Art, WRO Art Center (Wrocław, Poland), 2nd Moscow Biennale of Young Art, PS122 (NY), Taller Boricua (NY), 4CULTURE (Seattle), MediaLab Prado (Madrid), The Armory (Pasadena) and APEXART (NY).
