Glucose (single—channel video, 2012) Using 3D technology and live shooting, the video reshapes our surrounding domestic environment. It depicts a place where physical distorsions happen. The camera becomes the microscope of a slow mental slideshow and catches precious moments of perception disorder.
Inspired by the quantum theory, where particles can be in two places at the same time in an overlapping state, this anxiogenic and humoristic short gives birth to new types of relationships between objects and their own physical particularities.
Mihai Grecu (b. 1981) — a Romanian interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker.
After studying art and design in Cluj Napoca, he has been pursuing his artistic research at the Graduate School of Decorative Art in Strasbourg.
Recurring topics such as distress, cloning, hallucination, city life and war articulate the whole of his exploration of mysterious and subconscious beginnings. These visual and poetic trips, mixture of several techniques and styles may be seen as propositions for a new dream—oriented technology.
His work has been shown in numerous film festivals (Locarno, Rotterdam, Festival of New Cinema in Montreal) and exhibitions (“Dans la nuit, des images” at the Grand Palais, “Labyrith of my mind” at the Cube, “Video Short list: the Dream Machine at the Passage du Retz, “Studio” at Les Filles du Calvaire Gallery, etc.) and he has won acclaim internationally, such as a prize from the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Together with Thibault Gleize, a French graphic designer and illustrator whom he met at Ecole des Arts décoratifs in Strasbourg, he forms a multidisciplinary artistic duo, activating in Paris. Their practices articulate themselves around various media, such as digital video, installation, graphic design, photography and drawing. Chaotic sensations, alienated cities, polluted beings and noisy atmospheres mark the boundaries of these hallucinatory spaces.
