Mother (single—channel video, 2012) On difficult relationship between the child and his or her mother, interdependence, and extreme emotions that this relationship raises. Hatred mixed with love and rebellion against the duplication of stereotypes and parental behaviour are just some of the associations that this work calls. “Classic” arrangement of mother and “child” — here shown in form of a wild cat — refers to religious iconography. To hurt each other (painful scratching and moaning opposed to oppression) represents difficult love (conscious or not) that most of us have with mothers.

Agata Kus (b. 1987 in Krosno) — a Polish visual artist. Made in different media such as painting, installation or video, her work focuses on gender identity formation issues.

She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (2012)  and is currently working on her PhD there. She is a laureate of many scholarships, among others, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Scholarship (2011), Jan Matejko Creative Scholarship in the Discipline of Fine Arts (2011), Sapere Auso Foundation of Małopolska Scholarship (2011).

She had numerous exhibitions in Kraków, Łódź, Świnoujście, Radom, and Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

Since 2008, together with Katarzyna Kukuła, they work collaboratively as a Kuku Kuku group.

She lives and works in Kraków.
